张小祥:Peter Zhang's academic journey began with a Bachelor's degree from Anhui Normal University, China, under the mentorship of Prof. Huai-Zhu Ma. He then pursued a Master's degree at Beijing Normal University, China, studying under Prof. Bo-Li Liu, before advancing to the University of Pennsylvania for his doctoral study under the guidance of Prof. Bradford B. Wayland. His postdoctoral training was at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he worked alongside Prof. Stephen J. Lippard and later with Prof. Stephen L. Buchwald, significantly shaping his research interests. Currently, Peter Zhang holds the position of Full Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Boston College. Before joining Boston College, he served as a Full Professor at the University of South Florida. His academic journey also includes positions as an Associate Professor at the University of South Florida and an Assistant Professor at the University of Tennessee. He has been a member of various scientific panels and committees, including the Chemical Catalysis Panel of the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the SBCA Study Section of the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Additionally, he has offered his expertise as a scientific consultant to different organizations such as Zafgen, Inc. and bioAffinity Technologies, Inc. His contributions have earned him several accolades, including the Thieme Chemistry Journal Award, the NSF CAREER Award, and the ORAU Ralph Powe Junior Faculty Award, among others. At the heart of Peter Zhang's research lies the development and establishment of metalloradical catalysis (MRC). His work has focused on formulating and designing metalloradical-based catalysts to enable one-electron catalytic approaches for homolytic radical chemistry, with a strong emphasis on stereoselective radical cyclization reactions, CH functionalization, and radical cascade processes. Peter Zhang has published over 100 impactful research papers that have significantly influenced the field of homolytic radical chemistry for organic synthesis. Additionally, his innovative approach to catalysis has led to the issuance of seven U.S. patents, showcasing his commitment to translating basuc research into practical applications.
